Already, I have written this saying two times, which may seem like overkill. I personally can’t get enough of it.
I was raised with screens everywhere. TV since I can remember, computer games starting at 8-years-old, a phone at 9. So naturally, I have been all for social media since I was allowed to have it. Recently however, due to the endless free time I find myself having because of quarantine, I have become more conscious of my social media usage (read: addiction).
I decided to take the jump to rid my phone of social media and not allow myself to use it for as long as I deemed necessary. One of my biggest qualms with doing that, was that I felt I would no longer be inspired to sew. I thought that I needed the sewing Instagram accounts and endless posts just filed away in order to keep myself going. However, in a conversation with Erin from seamsbyerin.com , she pointed something out that was absolutely mind boggling to me.
She said “We save and save these posts and these makes and actually give ourselves credit as if WE had done them.”

Just stop and think about that. Do you too gather endless “inspiration” for your next make or project, and only feel good if your list of To-Be-Made is miles long? That’s how I felt. I NEEDED to have posts that made me think “I’m going to make this one day” and “I’m going to do this soon”. It made me feel productive without actually DOING anything. And that’s when Erin so eloquently put it: stop pinning, and start doing.
So now, I reevaluated my stash of fabric and made an actual small list of things that I am ACTUALLY going to make this time.

Stop “gathering inspiration” and saving “special” fabric. I promise you, you will get a lot more satisfaction and knowledge from it, than just letting it sit.

I love this! I’m excited to make our makes in 2021 instead of just talking about them!
ME TOO!
